Paint correction is machine polishing that permanently removes defects from your clear coat rather than hiding them. Swirl marks, wash scratches, water spot etching and oxidation all sit in the top few microns of clear coat, and correction levels that layer down until the damage is gone.
This is the opposite of a glaze or a filler wax, which drops oils into the scratches so they disappear for a few weeks and then come back after two washes.
How We Assess Your Paint
Before quoting anything we inspect the paint under focused light and take clear coat thickness readings. That matters more than most people realise: clear coat is finite, a vehicle that has been polished aggressively before may not have enough left to correct safely, and a repainted panel behaves differently from factory paint.
If your paint cannot take correction safely, we will tell you and recommend enhancement instead. Cutting into thin clear coat to chase a scratch is how a detailing job turns into a respray.

What Correction Cannot Fix
Being straight about the limits saves everyone a disappointing afternoon.
- ✓Scratches you can feel with a fingernail have usually gone through the clear coat — polishing will soften them, not remove them
- ✓Rock chips are missing paint, not scratched paint. They need touch-up or a respray
- ✓Sun-faded single-stage paint on older vehicles can improve dramatically but will not come back fully
- ✓Clear coat failure — the flaking, cloudy patches you see on older roofs and hoods — cannot be polished out. That panel needs paint
Correction Without a Coating Is Temporary
Correction removes the defects. It does not stop new ones. Put a corrected car back through a brush wash or dry it with a bath towel and the swirls come back within a season.
That is why correction and ceramic coating are usually bought together — the correction gets the paint right and the coating keeps it that way while making it much easier to wash safely. If you are considering both, going straight to a Gyeon or Gtechniq coating package costs less than buying the correction now and the coating later, because the prep is only done once.
